Icy Lake Run

I went to the lakefront this morning for a "run in the sun". Winter is hanging on a little longer this year than it did last year. That's good, because I missed a few weeks of winter running last month.

I'll miss these icy landscapes in a couple of days!

Yes, I added the "Pancakes" and the arrow, but the sign did say "ICE"!
Belmont Harbor was 50% covered with ice pancakes!

Snowy rocks with ice pancakes

8 Miles Total.
I'm planning my first long run in a long time on Sunday in preparation for the Get Lucky Half, which will be held next weekend.  Speaking of halfs, win a free entry to the Chicago 13.1 Half here.

  1. I like the icy scenery, just not having to run on it! I am ready for the spring though and some sunshine later in the evening.

    1. Yeah, I realize I am one of the few people that prefer winter training over spring or fall training. That said, sunshine is always preferable over cloud cover in the winter!

  2. Wasn't this morning perfect for a run? Kim and I did 5 miles along the trail (between Irving and the turnaround at Hollywood) this morning, and it was just great running weather. I'm discovering that I might be a winter runner too. The air is so cool and crisp, and I just feel better. Enjoy it while you can :)

    1. Yes, it was a perfect morning for a run. Too bad I didn't see you guys out on the trail. Oh well, maybe next time. Did you drive down or run from your place? Yup, gotta love the cool and crisp air. When you're done running you have that fantastic feeling like you just got done skiing in the mountains!

    2. We drove because I wasn't sure how slushy/icy the sidewalks would be. We went a little after 9, so we missed sunrise by kind of a while :)

  3. if it wasn't because you pointed out that you added "pancakes", I would have totally fallen for it haha

    Nice photo shopping skills :)

Good luck on your long run! I'm back to reading blogs. Thank you for the encouragement Pete :)

    1. Yeah, I am trying to be careful with my miles but it doesn't always work out. At the end of the week I realized I'd run 40 miles (on top of cross-training), which is too much considering I'm on the mend. I may cut back next week and cut back on my long run tomorrow. I want to actually make it to the "Get Lucky" starting line mostly pain-free so I can at least try and "race" it, especially since I missed the F^3! Yes, fingers crossed on the weather, I'll take anything except hot or a torrential downpour!

    2. Great to hear! I hope you are able to race it next week!

You forgot crazy strong wind! :)

(ive done too many half marathons out on the lakefront where one half was awesome due to strong tail wind, and the other half absolutely awful due to the head wind. as you might imagine, im scarred from those races)lol

    3. Agree that the wind is a big factor along the lake. Let's hope the headwind is during the 1st half and the tailwind is during the 2nd half. If that is the case, we can take it easy for the first half, then fly past everyone who started too fast into the wind. With my luck we will start with a headwind, then as we make the turn, the wind will change directions and we will have another headwind! I've had that happen on training runs, but never dual tailwinds! :)
