Going to the Doctor. Finally.

So, I was in the ER about 10 days ago. I'm okay, just an infected elbow that I might have gotten while I was doing crunches on a hotel gym mat. A few days (and a round of antibiotics) later, I had a follow-up appointment with the doctor who had been treating me in the ER. It turns out his actual office is in a sports medicine clinic and he (unbeknownst to me) is a doctor specializing in sports medicine. So, after my appointment I decided to ask him about treating my tingling ankle. He said, sure he could look at it, but I needed to make another appointment. So make another appointment I did, and tomorrow in addition to looking at my elbow, I'm hoping he can give me some kind of prognosis. I'm thinking he'll say one of the following:

1) Just rest it for a few weeks (months)
2) Here's a prescription to see a physical therapist and you can start to rehab it
3) Surgery is the only solution
4) Keep running, there's not much we can do

Actually, I would be happy for him to say #1, #2 or even #3, as either of those would mean I would start on a road of recovery guided by an actual doctor. #4 would stink, but at least I could keep running and start training for a walk/crawl Chicago Marathon.

So, by complete coincidence, fate has landed me in the hands of a sports medicine doctor, someone that I should have probably seen 8 months ago.

I'll see what happens tomorrow.

In other news, I was at Lollapalooza. I had an awesome time!
Saw this at Lollapalooza on Sunday

  1. I'm better 2 with, run only if you have no pain.
I hope they give you a bionic foot replacement. that would be bad ass. It could have a compartment for your keys, cash, and gu, and sausage.

    1. At this point, that sounds like a good plan!

  2. Declan's option #5 is a pretty sweet solution. Everyone should be at least part bionic, right? No? Just me?

I hope the doctor can figure out what's wrong with your ankle and how to fix it so that you can get back to your regularly scheduled training! Surgery would suck short-term, but may be the best long-term fix.

    1. I grew up watching the bionic man and had a bionic man doll, so I am a fan of bionics! Anyway, thanks. Yes surgery would suck short-term, but if it means I could recover fully, I would be for it.

  3. Eww with the elbow infection! I want to hear more gross details about that. Like... it got so bad you had to go to the ER? Was your elbow the size of your head?!

I am happy you are getting your ankle looked at! :)

    1. Yeah, I could give you the elbow details, but suffice it to say it swelled up to tennis ball size. At least it wasn't head-size! :)

      Thanks!

    1. Hey, if you want a co-author, let me know. I can throw in a chapter of how I lost feeling on one side of my body during the NYC marathon and had to drag my "dead" leg 3 miles to the finish line! You should go (to Lollapalooza) sometime!
