Chicago Marathon Tempo Run by the Lake

In the city we are enjoying very comfortable late-August morning temps. Today, I ran my eight mile tempo run (with a mile warm-up and cool-down) and, as you can see from the picture below, it was a picture-perfect day.   At the start of my run the outdoor house thermometer said 72 degrees. The temps are just warm enough to get a little "heat training", but not so hot that I feel miserable for the second half of the run.
1 mile warm-up @ 8:04/mile
8 mile tempo @ 7:14/mile
1 mile cool down @ 7:45/mile

Coming Up: The second of three long runs on Sunday.

  1. It's always a nice surprise in the summer when you are not miserable in the second half of your run because of crazy temps. WTG on the awesome tempo!

    1. Yes, I can usually handle the first few miles regardless of the heat. But the last few become a death march if it is too hot!

  2. I've only run by the lakefront once for my 1/2 this past June...it is SO pretty down by the lake! Awesome job!

  3. The temps have been very agreeable for sure! I've got a longer run outdoors planned today for myself. As long as the temps stay somewhat steady through the half marathon in a week and a half, I'll be happy.
