One of my favorite things about the area, is that it is kinda old school with absolutely no guardrails to prevent wayward pedestrians and bikers from falling into some sharp rocks or freezing cold water. The only things preventing certain doom for people close to the edge are some spray painted stencils to serve as warnings not to dive into the rocky shore below:
The rock isn't very "submerged" now is it?! |
No Diving! Gee you think?! |
Ice formations on the rocks |

Belmont Harbor is a nice place to put me in a peaceful state during my morning run. Even when it is the height of marathon training season in the summer there are very few people. It is out of the way enough that for the two mile loop, I may share it with only a handful of people. Or like on today's run, have it all to myself.
Ooo, it's so nice to have a little hidden gem like that in the city all to yourself! And those ice formations are too cool!
ReplyDeleteI kind of feel like not many people get out to Northerly Island either.
I wish I could run on Northerly Island more often. If it just weren't so far south I would be out there a lot.
DeleteThats great that you are able to find a peaceful running spot. My peaceful running spot is on the trails near my house. No one runs in the winter on them and I am the only one on them. So peaceful. Great pictures :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you have some nice trails near your house. Thanks.
Deleteyou take the best pics. Love this!
ReplyDeleteThat looks sooo beautiful and SOOO peaceful. I'd love to run around there!!
ReplyDeleteNext time you're in Chicago, definitely check it out!
DeleteThose pictures are amazing, as always. It's so great to hear about little hidden gems like this near the lakefront trail, which are so hard to find among the masses! I agree with Kim about Northerly Island, too - always so peaceful, although a little difficult to get to (which is probably why it's so peaceful).
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes, I must get down to Northerly Island. Soon!
DeleteThis is my favorite spot too! Another runner showed it to me last year, and i like to run there when i am grouchy - it always makes me feel better!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a good place to go to feel like you are away from the hectic city even though the "city" is only a couple of blocks away.
