After living in my neighborhood for 21 years, and driving, biking and running OVER the Irving Park Rd. bridge, today, I finally went UNDER the bridge. They finally completed the continuous running/biking/walking trail that extends from Montrose to Belmont which means that you no longer have to cross any streets to get from those two streets.
New trail! |
It was a beautiful day for a bike ride!
Yay! Chicago is doing a great job connecting all the bike paths.
ReplyDeleteYes it is. The last stretch will be to connect Montrose to Lawrence, then you could ride from Belmont to Evanston via a dedicated bike trail.
DeleteOh that's awesome!!!!
ReplyDeleteDoes your comment above mean they connected everything on the North Shore channel trail too? I didn't love having to walk my bike along the street near Lincoln/Peterson and it felt like that was "coming soon" for years!
Hey Anne! The path that runs along the river now goes from Belmont to Montrose and then there is a break where you need to ride/run along side streets until Lawrence. From there pretty much to Evanston you don't need to cross any streets as the trail goes under all bridges along the river. I guess the new stretch is called the "312 RiverRun". There is also a cool ped bridge between Belmont and Irving Park Rd. that connects the two trails that were on opposite sides of the river. I found this article from when the bridge opened: https://chi.streetsblog.org/2019/12/08/take-a-virtual-ride-on-the-new-riverview-bridge-bike-ped-causeway/
DeleteVery cool! Thanks for the link - I really need to check that out the next time I'm in town :)
