Getting Back to Running

I was out of the running scene most of last week due to a cold. It may or may not have been related to a Saturday night out with friends at Del Frisco's on Oak St. and ending up at Pippin's Tavern past 4am. Haven't done a night like that in about 20 years! Anyway, on the plus side of it all, I am all healed up from whatever shin problem I was having and my legs still feel fast. I don't know how much longer I can keep having fast runs without putting in more than 20 miles/week, but it sure is fun!

My 2nd Run today at Horner Park!
A congrats to all of you guys who PR'd yesterday in pristine weather conditions for speed at the Soldier Field 10 Miler! With my luck, I'll run it next year and it will be 95 degrees!

Next up the Run for The Animals 10k on Saturday.

  1. Ugh! Aren't these hot weather colds the worst? I wondered why you weren't posting. I am happy it was a silly cold and not an injury! Yay for the shins being better!

Good luck at your 10K next week! :)

    1. Yes, I think I was worn out. Yes, much rather have a 7 day cold than a month long injury. Thanks, I'm gonna have to watch them (the shins that is!)

    1. Now that I'm over 40, I won't even try competing in partysville any longer. All I am good for is a few beers every now and then at a local German tavern and my annual Lollapalooza visit! Thanks!

  5. Question ... what is the Mag Mile area like after midnight? Because, given my blog name, I kind of want to plan an unofficial "Mag Mile Run" but with all the pedestrian and car traffic, I'm not sure WHEN would be a safe time to even run the sidewalks. So I'm curious if it could be pulled off late at night. But good to know Pippin's is open late, because there would need to be post-run beers.

    1. First off, a one mile run/race down the Mag Mile would be a super cool idea! Count me in! Even cooler, let's get the city to close "Boul Mich" for a 1 mile road race! Anyway, you were talking about sidewalks, and I can only really speak for how busy it is on weeknights around 9:30, when I used to take classes at Northwestern's Chicago campus a few years back. I don't really know for sure how crowded Michigan Ave. is post midnight. Like you said, there are always people strolling around the area, but you should be good for a fun run around midnight. Just the occasional tourists or drunks stumbling back to their hotel. If you are talking about the Rush/Division/Viagra Triangle area just north of Pippin's it is immensely crowded post-midnight, especially in the summer, as the sidewalks are taken up by lots of restaurant tables. Hope that helps!
