I'm looking forward to running again

A badly stubbed toe about six months ago, caused me to take a few weeks off of running. During that time, I realized I hadn't been getting enough sleep because during my injury time, I would sleep longer and deeper than I had been when I was getting up early to run. So, in order to reset my sleep cycle, I've pretty much taken six months off from running. The only "running" I've done during that time is briefly during daily three mile dog walks and then only for very short stretches. I've found that long walks are super relaxing and also help me keep a modicum of fitness. I'm also getting lots of sleep.

Since there aren't any in-person races to train for, this has been an ideal time for a break. That said, I'm looking forward to the day that I start running for real again. It might be in a few weeks or a few months, I'm not sure - heck it could even be tomorrow....

Enjoying the snow on skis

  1. Sorry your toe injury was so bad but I do think a break from running now and then is a good thing. There's nothing quite like a break to help rekindle the flame!

    1. Thanks Marcia. Yes, rekindling the flame is definitely an additional benefit of a running break!

  2. Pete! Something made me think about you skiing down Montrose (I think?) many winters ago really recently. What a perfect backdrop for this photo. I'm glad the skis got some use this year!

I've been enjoying long walks since last summer - it's just good to get fresh air and move :) I hadn't run since May, but I'm signed up for my favorite local 5k at the end of April so doing some very light training for it, but it's actually nice to take a casual approach to running this time around.

    1. Anne! Yes, I did have a pic a while back of me skiing down Montrose! I try to ski from my house to Horner Park before everyone gets their shovels out. Luckily I got to ski twice this year vs. last year when there was never deep enough snow to get out there. Yes, I am with you on walks. I didn't realize I could retain so much fitness by simply walking, but now I do. Also, my legs not super sore all the time, which is an added benefit. Good luck with your 5k, I think any running I will do will also be casual for at least the foreseeable future.

  3. Hi, Pete! Glad you are getting sleep, but sorry to hear about your toe maladies. I hope you're healed soon :) and I love your attitude toward your break right now.
